Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and similar state privacy laws, you have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. This page explains what that means for Histicle and how you can exercise your rights.
What We Collect and Why
Histicle is a free history content site supported by display advertising. To keep the site running at no cost to you, we work with advertising partners who may use certain data to show relevant ads. This includes:
- Browser type, device type, and general location (city or region level)
- Pages you visit on Histicle and how long you spend on them
- Referring websites and search terms that brought you here
- Cookie identifiers set by our advertising partners
We do not collect your name, email address, or any information that directly identifies you unless you choose to provide it to us.
Does Histicle “Sell” My Data?
Under the broad definition used by California law, sharing data with advertising partners in exchange for ad revenue can qualify as a “sale” or “share” of personal information — even when no money changes hands directly. We want to be transparent: our display advertising setup may meet this definition.
We never sell personal information in the traditional sense. We do not hand your data to a data broker or third party for their own marketing purposes. However, our advertising partners — including Google AdSense and similar networks — may use cookies and tracking technologies that fall under CCPA’s definition of sharing.
Your Rights Under California Law
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information
- Know what categories of personal information we collect
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights
Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and other states with similar privacy laws may have comparable rights under their respective state laws.
